Dear Friends,

I’ve been telling friends and family and strangers for years that cruising on these magnificent cruise ships is really a spectacular way to see the world. Once on-board, we unpack one time; we wake up in new ports with such a wide-range of beautiful and interesting things to see and do; we eat spectacular food from a variety of choices on the ship, and we have many hours of spectacular conversation in the ship theater with Abraham.

Jerry picked Alaska as our very first cruise because he knew the seas would be calm, and they were. But we didn’t know then, since it was our first cruise, that it would also come to be (after many more cruises) our favorite!

We are sailing round trip from the beautiful port of Vancouver, Canada, and there is also a new port of Icy Strait Point that we have not seen before.

Jerry’s philosophy, and mine, is never to try to sell you on anything, or talk you into doing something. But, we like it when something that we are planning to do also feels like a match to you.

Our love,
Esther
(and Abraham and Jerry)

7 Night Cruise Itinerary Celebrity – Solstice

Celebrity Cruises has been voted “the World’s Best Large Ship Cruise Line” by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler.

Ports of Call and
Cruising Highlights

Vancouver, BC, Canada

Consistently ranked as one of the most livable cities in the world, Vancouver offers both outdoor adventure and urban comforts, as it sits nestled among majestic snow-capped mountains, sandy beaches, and a lush rainforest on the west coast of Canada. Before embarking on cruises from Vancouver, go hiking and biking in the mountains just outside of the city, or spend some time exploring Vancouver’s diverse culinary and arts scene. Known for its scenic landscapes and as a popular filming location for television shows and movies, the city’s cinematic background and cultural metropolis will leave a lasting impression.

Icy Strait Point, Alaska

For thousands of years, the Tlingit Indians have called this place home. Located near the city of Hoonah and home to a fully-restored historic salmon cannery, Icy Strait Point also offers travelers the chance to view wildlife like humpback whales, orcas, seals, eagles, and brown bears, or to explore monuments to the region’s fishing heritage. Amazing fishing opportunities await, along with excellent whale-watching trips, bear-spotting tours, and sea kayaking.

Skagway, Alaska

At the height of the Klondike Gold Rush, the port town of Skagway served as the primary gateway to the legendary gold fields and quickly grew into Alaska’s largest settlement. Skagway has been reinvigorated for those looking to explore Alaska’s colorful history, pristine wildlife and unrivaled natural beauty. Much of the town has been preserved as part of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park where rangers offer free walking tours around the historic district.

Scenic Cruising Endicott Arm & Dawes Glacier

As you sail through its 30-mile-long stretch, you can’t help but be amazed by the untouched beauty of the surrounding granite mountains, verdant valleys and numerous waterfalls. Drifting icebergs, deep blue waters and a spectacular tidewater glacier only add to this natural spectacle’s appeal. Endicott Arm is one of the largest breeding grounds for harbor seals on the planet. Along the shore you might also glimpse brown bears, bald eagles, sea ducks, deer, moose and wolves. Your journey through scenic Endicott Arm Fjord ends with a front-row view of the striking Dawes Glacier. Standing over 600 feet tall and a half-mile wide, this very active icecap is known for its spectacular calving displays which noisily produce huge, chunky icebergs that float in area waters.

Juneau, Alaska

Juneau, Alaska may well be the most remote, most beautiful, and strangest state capital in the United States. Surrounded by water, forest and mountain sights, visitors seeking things to do in Juneau indoors and outdoors can hike a glacier, eat fresh-caught fish on a seaside patio and tour a grand capitol building all in one day. The city itself is pleasant, but the real highlight of a visit to Juneau is tracking down some wildlife. You can hike up Mount Roberts to chance upon wild deer and bald eagles.

Ketchikan, Alaska

Ketchikan is one of the prettiest towns along the Inside Passage. Surrounded by the dense Tongass Forest and overlooked by the sometimes snow-capped Deer Mountain, Ketchikan is famed for its abundant salmon, impressive collection of Northwest totem poles, and the colorful houses along Creek Street, a stilted boardwalk that’s now a historical landmark. Ketchikan provides the opportunity for dozens of activities, from sea kayaking and mountain hikes to float plane rides over the island-specked Misty Fjords. There’s delicious salmon to be sampled, abundant bear spotting and ancient history told through the art and wood carving of the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian people.
